DOS Studio Jam April 2021

It was looking to be a nice day and the drive over to Martin’s studio went fine. Listened to Rocket Boy by Pothead. I arrived about 9:45 and Martin was looking good in his african inspired loose pants. My headphones had died in the right channel so while I was busy setting up, Martin fixed my headphones. Got the ARP this time but could not get the theremin box to work today.

Anyway, we started off with two acoustic numbers and both were quite a good success. Martin mostly plays acoustic guitar these days and only the electric when we jam or he needs to change out his pedals or experiments with a new sound. Jam 3 was a new track that Martin was working on for us but we just did not really get it to work with the drums and it was a bit of a mess. You won’t hear this one until we get it right! Jam 4 I used the 2.1 setting for a cool drone. I quite liked this jam.

Now it was time for a lunch break. We sat in the sun and had a drink and a sandwich but it was so hot, we had to move to the shade!! The first jam after lunch, was one of the best we have ever recorded and Martin revisited his guitar riff from the Wicked Lady track, I am a Freak. I used the D102 sequence on the Novation and this gave the track a really cool groove. We will for sure try this live in the future. Wow.. The next Jam 6, started with some very spaced out electronics and was over all pretty cool but Martin goes out of tune at 15:45 or so… will make an edit. We decided to do one more jam, Jam 7- Pretty spaced out and a good way to end another fun session.

This particular double album kicks ass and would take a full page but suffice it to say that they are indeed great listeners, know each others strengths and each track here has it's own vibe and direction, only known in the present moment. They open up reality to make sure they are not limited by time as to see if they can achieve some sort of collective orgasmic crescendo. My experience of the album focuses to vague hints of four riders symbol in western culture, culminating in paintings of father and son, both descended to the ultimate reality to where the four riders eventually lead us all. Though most of physical world and life in general may appear as null, there are scarcely summits of space mountains emerging from void. Momentariness of all may be only cause for meanigns and give reason to existence..Remembering Mr. Hofman when spinning this.record. Eetu Pellonpää
